Surge in Mobile Activations in India

Over the past 1 year, the Indian market has witnessed unprecedented growth in mobile connections. Almost 15 million are being added every month.
Given the fact that the penetration levels are already pretty high, one can easily question the authenticity of these statistics. A bulk of these mobile connections are still not going into the rural areas.
Our research shows that only 30% of these connections are being purchased by first time mobile subscribers. Rest are accounted by either churners or add-on connections.
The lifetime validity offers on most SIMs also implies that these susbcribers always stay in the operators' databases.
It will indeed be interesting to find the true penetration levels!
